Our child was born in September, can one of us claim him as the Earned Income Credit? I seen it ask, "Has the child lived with you more than 6 months?"

If the child lived with you for the months after he was born, then you would say that he lived with you for the whole year, in the My Info tab entry for him as a dependent, where it says "lived with me for-- select a time period." A child born at any time during the year counts as an exemption for the full year. This means you can answer the other questions to determine if you qualify for a head of household filing status and other credits and deductions related to dependents, such as the Earned Income Credit.
This Turbo Tax FAQ has basic information on the Earned Income Credit and when you go through the interview in the software and Turbo Tax will ask the questions to determine if it will help your return.
