Can I claim our 22 year old son as a dependent because he lived with us 11 months, is a part time student and he earned only about $7500 in 2016 (serious car accident)?

No, you cannot claim him as your dependent, unfortunately. Once the child reaches age 19, he must be full time student until age 24 or make less than $4050 for the year to be qualified as your dependent.
