Can F1 students exempt tax return form 1099-MISC?

I'm an international student with F1 visa. I received a 1099-MISC form with $4000 income for last year. I know I still need to file the 1040 tax return form, but can I exempt the tax from my income? I have already used Turbotax to file the tax return form and paid the tax to IRS. Can I get a tax refund?

Can F1 students exempt tax return form 1099-MISC?

Generally F-1 visa holders are treated as  Non-Resident Aliens and therefor need to file form 1040-NR ( Not supported by TurboTax).   Sprint Tax  or a Tax professional  or your school foreign student's office can help in this situation.

When did you enter the USA with F-1? What country are you from?

Thank you so much for answering my question! But actually, I have already filed form 1040 by TurboTax and paid the tax... Can I still amend my form now? I'm from China and have entered the USA with F-1 for around 4 years.

Well, if you used  TurboTax then you filed form 1040 which is not correct.  Suggest you visit SprintTax/ a Tax professional/ school foreign student office  for help in preparing an amended  return --- you prepare using form 1040-NR and attach a note explaining that you made an error in filing form 1040 --attach a copy of the filed  return -- mark on top that this is ONLY a COPY -- do not process.  Assuming that you came in with F-1  either 2014 or alter , you are still within the exemption period.
I apologize for not making this clear  -- since in your post you do say that you have used TurboTax ( just could not add  2 and 2  and make four --sorry)
