I'm an international student with F1 visa. I received a 1099-MISC form with $4000 income for last year. I know I still need to file the 1040 tax return form, but can I exempt the tax from my income? I have already used Turbotax to file the tax return form and paid the tax to IRS. Can I get a tax refund?

Generally F-1 visa holders are treated as Non-Resident Aliens and therefor need to file form 1040-NR ( Not supported by TurboTax). Sprint Tax or a Tax professional or your school foreign student's office can help in this situation.
When did you enter the USA with F-1? What country are you from?
