You don't have to enter box 14 information from Form 1099-INT on your 1040 tax return. This box is used for CUSIP numbers for certain bonds. The CUSIP number is unique number used to identify an asset. It doesn't affect your income taxes. You can leave the field blank in Turbo Tax.
At this point it will not let me proceed with efile ???
Can you explain in more detail? Do you get an error message?
same i was about to efile and it is telling me i cant because i need to enter a CUSIP number when i don't have one.
I ran into the same issue. But as I was replying and looked over, Turbo tax says to leave blank if doesn't apply. I ended up putting 0.00 Once I deleted that the tax return e-filed with no issues
You can leave that field blank if Box 14 is empty on your form. Per the IRS Instructions for Form 1099-INT - - Box 14. Tax-Exempt Bond CUSIP No.
For single bonds or accounts containing a single bond, enter the CUSIP number of the tax-exempt bond for which tax-exempt interest is reported in box 8 or tax credit bond (including build America bond and specified tax credit bond) for which a tax credit or taxable interest, as applicable, is reported in box 1. Enter the CUSIP number of the bond for which interest was paid or tax credit was allowed. If the tax-exempt interest or the tax credit is reported in the aggregate for multiple bonds or accounts, enter “various.” @juan_99
Thanks, Dawn C. That sounds like the right answer.
