I have four items listed in my Box 14.
PRETAXINS
NYPFL
NYSDI
401K
Turbo Tax requires I add a category for PRETAXINS and 401k. None of them seemed to fit, so I selected Other for both. It now will not let me file and presents this message:
"NYS does not allow the description selected for the NY public employee retirement contribution code entered (ERS, NYRET, RET, NYSERS). To e-file successfully you must choose either 'NY IRC 414H Subject to NY tax' or 'NY IRC 414H NY tax exempt' from the picklist."
I've been trying to research this, but it's just not making sense. I'm not a public employee, I work for a company that isn't even headquartered in NYS. I don't have any of the contribution codes listed in my Box 14. And even more frustratingly - every thing I read insists that Box 14 doesn't really impact my taxes, when it is holding up the whole process!

Have you tried deleting the entries for Box 14 that are causing the Smart Check message? If these amounts don't impact your federal or state return(s), you may not need to include that information.
