back door roth IRA and excess contribuion

I was over 50 years old in 2024 and I put $8000 after tax money in my IRA and then moved it to Roth IRA. I don't know what input error I made in Turbo tax, it says I have $8000 excess contribution that is subject to 6% penalty. Appreciate any help what has caused this penalty.

Thanks and regards,

Yes, reporting a non-deductible IRA contribution and subsequent conversion to a Roth IRA is a two-step process, as outlined here in How to Enter a Back-Door Roth Conversion.

You may want to delete the 1099-R and re-enter it.
