I searched the TT Community and found contradicting responses to this question. So I'd like to be sure before I entering it into TT.
We moved in 2021 from Texas to California. We had a terrible moving experience to say the least. After a lot of back and forth, calls, emails, etc. they partially reimbursed us for some of the damages.
Q1. I can deduct such losses?
Q2. Is my understanding correct that I would need to itemize to get this deduction?
Q3. Can I simply claim the difference between the total claimed amount and what was covered by the moving company as my loss? I hope I don't have to list each individual damaged item because there are many!
Q4. Is the highlighted line where I enter this into TT? What data do I need for this claim?
Thank you!

You cannot deduct the loss, as casualty and theft losses are only deductible under current federal tax law for federally declared disasters.
So, where can I deduct this loss then?
You cannot deduct that loss since its not tax deductible.
