Amount refunded on tax year 2022 and Amount applied to the next tax year 2023

Good evening,

My overpaid on the tax year 2022 is 4463.

What is the percentage of overpaid on tax year 2022 should be an amount refunded ?
What is the percentage of overpaid on tax year 2022 should be an amount applied to the next year 2023?
Can we considerate the amount overpaid as the sum of both :  amount refunded +amount applied to the next year?
I tried and retried to calculate these, nathing.

Thant for your help.

not sure why you are asking about percentages.

look at your 2022 tax return.  what is on Line 36?  THAT is what is carried over as a credit on your 2023 tax return.  Otherwise you should have received Line 35a already.  it's that simple.

I don't know what or why you are asking.  There is no "percentage" of anything.  They are set amounts you picked.  On your 2022 return line 34 is what you overpaid.  If you applied part of it to 2023 it will be on line 36 leaving you a refund on line 35a.

So what line is the $4,463 on?

Do you need to enter the amount applied from 2022 on your 2023 return?  Where is it asking about an overpayment?

If you applied an amount of your 2022 tax refund to the 2023 taxes owed, then you need to enter the amount applied to the 2023 tax return on your 2023 tax return.

To enter, change or delete a refund from the prior year applied to this years taxes (Federal, State, Local) -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Other Income Taxes, click on the start or update button

On the next screen select the options under 2022 Refund Applied to 2023

Or enter refund applied to this year in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to refund applied to this year

The prior year federal tax refund amount applied is shown on Form 1040 Line 26

That's up to you.   Don't you want to get your whole refund now?  Why let the IRS keep some of it?   Do you think you will have a tax due for 2023?  Are you just filing 2022 now?  You can't use the Online version to do 2022.  Are you using the Desktop program?  If you already filed 2022 it's too late to apply the refund to 2023.

@dsatyr44  I think what you are asking is based on the following:

1) you have yet to complete your 2022 or 2023 tax return

2) you have estimated that the refund for 2022 is around $4463.

3) you are asking how much of that should be applied to 2023.

My recommendation:

Complete BOTH your 2022 and 2023 tax return RIGHT NOW.

On the 2022 return, request that the ENTIRE $4463 be carried forward as a credit on the 2023 return.

On the 2023 return, request the entire CREDIT that may remain.  If you owe, then the money from 2022 is going to reduce the late payment penalties.
