Amending return

My sister stays with me for part of 2023.  She claimed she paid me rent during that time which I did not claim on my tax return.  Should I amend my return for the amount she claimed?

Amending return

Where did she claim she paid you rent?  State return?  Which state?

Did she pay you rent or was it just sharing living expenses?  If you actually charged her rent that was at Fair Market Value, then you would need to amend your return and include the income from the rent.  If she was a roommate contributing to expenses, then you would not need to amend or claim the money as rent.

This was on her state return in Indiana.  I didn't charge her rent but she did pay living expenses.

If there was no rental/lease agreement outlining required payments for her time with you then this appears to be shared living expenses and no amendment would be required.
