Already activated 2020 TurboTax Deluxe But Now CAN'T OPEN FILE

Same problem here. I'm unable to open the return to do an amended return. I have used the same Mac laptop and TurboTax Premier CD since version 2015 without any problems. Previously, years on a Windows machine without a hitch. This year (possibly because the current tax software might not be compatible with the new Apple OS?), I had much trouble saving it and reopening it.  Also, it retrieved last year's information in only a few places; most of it had to be entered manually.

Last month, after several hours on the phone with a very helpful Help Desk person, I was able to open it and work on my return. Fearing I would not be able to reopen it, I filed it electronically with just three rounds of checking and without "sleeping on it" as usual. Result: I had overlooked one IRA RMD (paid out without a mailed document before skipping it became a legal option). Now, trying to open the same return to amend it, it will not open. First it asks me to download TurboTax updates, then it stalls without opening. After restarting the computer, the same update request and the same stalling. I presume I will have to manually fill out a printed form and mail it in.

Corruption could have occurred in the Application or in an associated preference or support file.

The best remedy is to totally uninstall TurboTax and all associate files and then re-install. That will not delete or change any .tax2020 data file that had already been created with the tax data.

To uninstall the application and all associated files need to be deleted and then the application reinstalled. If there was a state then the state must also be reinstalled.

To remove TurboTax from your computer, you'll need administrative rights.

I need the activation license  code for my 2020 Turbo Tax program that I purchased online. I had my computer repaired and  I can not acess my 2020 Tax return. I need your assistance.

This is a user community forum.  I'll tell you how to reach Support below, if needed.   If you bought a CD, then the code should be on the product sleeve inside the packet.  If you purchased the 2020 program as a download from a reputable authorized retailer, you may be able to get your license code from the email receipt or their customer help desk.  If a download was purchased from Amazon, the license code should be in the digital downloads section of your Amazon account.

 

If purchased directly from TurboTax, or if you were unable to get it through the original seller, here's how to contact TurboTax Support for assistance.
