Adjusting Property Tax when different than box 10 on 1098

Property tax reported in box 10 on the 1098 when there is an escrow account may need adjustment for things that are not deductible like solid waste charge or water quality protect charge.

A Help box for the "Enter any additional property tax paid" form says if you need to edit anything go to "Mortgage Interest and Refinancing".  I don't know where this is.

What is the best way to do this adjustment without changing the value on the 1098?

Enter Property Taxes in that subsection and not from the figure on your 1098.

Ok since the IRS gets a copy of the 1098 that won't be a problem if what I enter for the 1098 doesn't agree?

It does seem that the form for the 1098 asks only "Property (real estate) taxes paid" as opposed to contents of "Box 10".  So maybe no problem?
