Additional child tax credit

Does the Additional Child Tax Credit apply to each dependent?

I've done the math ( 15% of taxable earned income over $2500) and get X. The IRS website says the ACTC is up to $1600 per eligible child. I have 2 but my return only shows X (the amount for one child) for my CTC. Do I not get that amount per dependent?

Additional child tax credit

The Child Tax Credit listed on your 1040 Line 19 can only be as much as your tax liability at that point on your return.

If that shows as 892, I assume that was all the tax liability you had at that point of the return.

The remaining credit becomes and is listed as the Additional Child Tax Credit.

That will be listed on your 1040 Line 28.

The credit is calculated per child.

The credit can be reduced depending on your income.

Additional child tax credit

The maximum ACTC is $1,700 per child.

However, the total of CTC and ACTC is limited to $2,000 per child under age 17.

Please read this TurboTax article for more information.

As we do not know the amount of CTC on your return, we can't comment further.

Additional child tax credit

The amount I get after doing the ACTC math and the amount shown as my CTC on my return is 892. Both children are well under 17 and both qualify as my dependents. I'm just confused- up to 1600 per child makes me think I would get the 892 per child, but is that assumption incorrect?
