When you buy bonds (or other securities) using a brokerage firm, the "seller" would be the entity that is currently holding the security you are purchasing, and they are selling it to you through the brokerage firm, who is the "middleman" to facilitate the transaction. The seller is the person on the other side of your trade who is selling their shares.
