Hi,
I filed our 2020 return before the 3rd stimulus checks were issued, so our eligibility was based on 2020 return (as opposed to 2019 or earlier). On the initial filing, I over-declared our income, which pushed our married-filing-jointly AGI over $160K. I then filed an amended return, which brought our married-filing-jointly AGI below $150K. We still did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment.
In 2021, our married-filing-jointly AGI is just over $160K - this time without me making the same filing mistake I did last year. Because of this, I do not get an option to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
In summary:
- 2021 AGI - above threshold;
- 2020 amended AGI - below threshold;
- 2020 original AGI - above threshold;
- 2019 (and all earlier) AGI - below threshold.
Is there no way for our family to qualify for and receive the 3rd stimulus payment?

Sorry the 2020 return was just used to send out the checks fast. It is really based on your 2021 income. Sorry.
Thank you. Sigh...
And if you qualified by 2020 AGI, received the stimulus, but then no longer qualified by 2021 AGI - would you you have had to pay it back?
