I always claim my 2 adult disabled children - they pay more than 1/2 living expenses ( b/c SSDI) - so I don't get to be Head of Household - I file as Single. However, they always help me with EITC. This year I earned very little (got more in pension, etc.).
Below is the message I got on why I received $1,410 this year (usually I earn around $10,000 per year and get more EITC). Anyway, when I read "Although you have two adult disabled dependents, they do not qualify as qualifying children for the Earned Income Credit...." it freaked me out. Spent many hours trying to figure this out. Turns out I do get the credit, it's reduced because I didn't earn very much this year which is what I expected, but my 2 sons are still on the EITC form and it all worked out. AI responses needs a little lesson??
The exact wording is below:
Your Earned Income Tax Credit of $1,410 is based on your filing status as Single, your total earned income of $3,539, and your adjusted gross income of $25,196. Although you have two adult disabled dependents, they do not qualify as qualifying children for the Earned Income Credit. Since your adjusted gross income is above the income threshold for a Single filer with zero qualifying children, your credit is reduced from the maximum amount.
