Will Intuit provide an update to the 2022 TurboTax desktop app that will allow me to E-file my federal and California State returns up to 11/16? As of today, because it is now past 10/16, the app says I cannot E-file. Note: every time I open TurboTax is scans for updates, so why not one for this?

No, the TurboTax desktop editions for tax year 2022 will not be updated to e-file a 2022 tax return after October 16, 2023. The 2022 tax return can only be printed and mailed.
Thank you, DoninGA. I learned today from H&R Block that they HAVE modified their 2022 app to allow people like me who live in California in a county that received a Federal (and State) extension to November 16, 2023, **CAN** E-FILE their federal and state taxes via their desktop edition until November 18, 2023. So, I've written off the $69 I spent on TurboTax 2022 Desktop as a loss (non-deductible) and am now an H&R Block client. Every time I open my 2022 return in TurboTax, it looks for any new updates...EVERY SINGLE TIME, so I consider the fact that TurboTax couldn't be bothered to update the ability to e-file 2022 returns for those affected by the new IRS and State deadline...well, what should I call it? LAZY. TurboTax/Intuit has lost a customer.
@jacqueli48 I suspect the issue is more fundamentaland is not "lazy programmers".
I suspect it has to do with how their infrastructure is designed and intergrated with the Online Version. In order to update the website and any "behind the scenes" infrastructure by early December for the new tax year, they really need those 45 days to update and test everything.
Turbo Tax does not charge for e-filing; paper filing is still available as an alternative.
