I'm getting errors when attempting to import into Quicken - regardless of the file from which I want to import is open or not. When it's open. I get the attached, clearly - not a correct situation as Quicken is in the background with the file in question open. Sure - I know the TXF export/import is available, but can't we streamline this and make sure we have a correct error?

Wow...2021 desktop isn't really available yet..so you would have to be working on a beta version somehow.
@RogerSnook If you are a 2021 beta tester, I doubt that this is the proper place to report such errors ....and for the 2021 software, that part may just not be implemented yet.

@xmasbaby0 @DoninGA is 2021 software under active user-testing now?
@SteamTrain Nothing heard about user testing. However, the TurboTax webpage for ordering the 2021 desktop software has the following notice -
Your card will not be charged until you place your order.
I highly doubt importing from Quicken will be available until after 12/31 ... the year is not over yet so you cannot possibly have your books closed yet.
Although the downloaded program becomes available every year sometime early November with the online following sometime in December they are NOT fully operational programs ... they are only beta versions. The final program and the state programs are never fully operational until late January at the earliest.

ANY tax software released by any company prior to about January 15 is only released for marketing and market share. No program is complete and ready to file until the IRS approves their final forms and then individually reviews each program's implementation of the form. And some tax situations aren't able to be filed until February or March, again mostly due to IRS delays.
What happened to "Seek First to Understand"? I'm not a registered beta tester and as someone else mentioned in the thread, the Nov 3 Drop is out on the site to download for us mere mortal(yet experienced)users.
As a paying client, I'm certainly not interested in "beta testing". I get it - tax laws aren't always finalized until the IRS "opens for acceptance". But until then, I consider this production software that I paid for, that is pending law/process updates, which TurboTax has faithfully delivered through the years.
For me, installing TT now before all the laws are finalized is a way for me to "self-estimate" any return/tax payment based on the available data at the time, which I've found helpful in the past.....15+ years as a satisfied TT user.

Even though the downloaded program comes out sometime in November each year it is only a beta version which will not be fully operational until late January at the earliest (much later for some forms and the state programs). Efiling will not be open until late January at best so do not be in a rush to file.
Same with the Online version which becomes functional sometime in December.

If you are trying to do some tax planning then use the fully operational 2020 downloaded version instead.
This is my mini version of a tutorial that should be in the downloaded program:
Forms Mode lets you view and make changes to your tax forms "behind the scenes."
If you're adventurous, you can even prepare your return in Forms Mode, but we don't recommend it. You may miss obscure credits and deductions you qualify for, and you may forget to report things that will come back and haunt you later.
Forms Mode is exclusively available in the TurboTax CD/Download software. It is not available in TurboTax Online.
If you want to play around with different figures and tax scenarios without affecting your original return you can ….
It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of your tax data file, in case your original gets lost or corrupted. Here's how:
If you make changes to your original tax return file, repeat these steps to ensure your original and backup copies are in-synch.
AND save it as a PDF so you have access to a copy even if you don’t have the program still installed and operational :
AND protect the files :
Ouch.....I didn't realize they were sending it out already.
When I checked early this morning, I'm sure the Desktop order page said "Pre-Order" ... and now it says "Buy".

Too bad...complaint chaos ensues ( as it does every year ).
Yes ... first day glitches ... who would have expected that to happen ...LOL. Good news we have the eager beavers who are first in the pool to find all the sharks in the water so the rest of us don't get bit. Once the blood clears it will be safe for the rest of us to jump in. Of course there will be many places in the program that has not been updated yet or fully functional until sometime late January at the earliest so everyone really needs to be patient while the program becomes a fully operational system.
For those who need to do 2021 estimates should be using the fully operational 2020 program ... that is what the WHAT IF tool is meant to do.
I am unable to locate my copy of the downloadable 2021 TurboTax software. I can't locate it. What should I do?
If you have not yet downloaded the software you paid for then sign onto your download account - https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/unified/downloads?route=myaccounts
It is now July 2022 and I am having this same error issue. Only difference is I can't find a way to export my data to a txf file.
@Outback What are you trying to do? You do not export an online return to a txf file. You download the data file ending in .tax2021 (or .tax2020 etc.) to open in the Desktop installed program. Or what data are you trying to export to a txf? A brokerage account or from Quicken or ??
Save the tax file
