2021 taxes

I received a payment in my checking account as IRS Treas 310 Tax Ref 0818212. I have not received a 1099G for this amount.  Do I have to report this amount on my tax form 1040 and where?

No. You will not receive a 1099-G for the Advanced Child Tax Credit. The IRS should have sent you Letter 6419 to provide the total amount of advance Child Tax Credit payments that were disbursed to you during 2021. You do have to report the total amount of payments you received from June through December of 2021. You can also use the Child Tax Credit Update Portal to review your records.

To enter the Child Tax Credit received, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Search child tax credit with the magnifying glass tool.
  3. Click on the Jump to link.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Enter your advance payments on the page Tell us about any advance Child Tax Credit payments.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

This is not an advanced child tax credit. This is a refund for unemployment givenn in 2020.

Unemployment checks sent during the pandemic do not count as earned income for the year -- therefore it not taxable and you don't report it on your return.
