Hello,
Turbo Tax continues to bring me back to the review page (attached) with regard to a 1099-B i received from a stock split. This is GE Stock my dad gifted me back in 1997 and I do not have any cost basis data.
Any ideas on how to get past this page? Do i need to use Yahoo stock price history and try to figure out a cost basis? This is pretty confusing and seems that Turbo Tax implies they will get me past this page, but repeated attempts it always returns asking for the same information.
Thank you for any help,
Mark

For date acquired enter “various”. You have to enter a cost basis or the IRS will assume it is zero.
Thank you,
that got past the date box, but now it's coming back to the cost basis box.
Yes, you either enter zero or find a cost basis you can defend if audited. Some tax payers use historical stock price sites or get help from their brokerage if they have no historical records.
