2020 Federal Estimated Tax payment due dates

If you owe money when you complete your 2019 return, TurboTax will generate your 2020 vouchers automatically.

You can calculate your 2020 estimated taxes and generate the payment vouchers by doing this:

  1. With your tax return open, search for 1040-es (be sure to include the dash) and select the Jump to link.
  2. Answer No to the question Do you want to change your W-4 withholdings for 2020?
  3. Answer the questions about things like your 2020 filing status, income, and deductions.
  4. Eventually, you'll come to the Print Vouchers? screen. Answer Yes and we'll include your 2020 1040-ES payment vouchers when you print a copy of your return later.

TurboTax uses the most recent info when calculating your 2020 estimated taxes.

You don't need to use the vouchers to pay estimated taxes, just go to the IRS website: Paying Your Taxes

Your state taxing authority will have a similar website.

2020 Federal Estimated Tax payment due dates

KathrynG3 - do you know if Intuit will update TT so that I can enter a payment date later than 4/15/2021.  As of today it won't let me enter a date later than 4/15.

Yes, Please be patient.

Since the change to the filing date and the payment date was only announced on March 20, it takes a while to get the software updated across the desktop and online editions for the personal, professional and business programs.

Then TurboTax has to wait until the IRS has changed their systems to accept payment dates after April 15, 2021 and on or before May 17, 2021 for a 2020 tax return, otherwise the tax return would be rejected by the IRS.

This date change affects all tax preparation software companies and paid tax professionals who provide e-filing for their clients.

I think y'all need to edit those dates....it's May 17 2021 now.  Those are last year's dates.

The payment should have been taken out of my account on April 23, 2021. Is there a problem

2020 Federal Estimated Tax payment due dates

According to this IRS update as of April 23rd:

Payment Processing Issue: We identified a delay in processing Form 1040 balance due, Form 1040-X amended, and Form 1040-ES estimated tax payment requests submitted via Modernized e-File. The issue has been resolved, and pending payments are being processed. The taxpayer’s account will be credited with the original requested payment date(s). Taxpayers should not re-resubmit these payments.

If a taxpayer re-submitted any of these payment requests due to the delay in processing, they may cancel them by calling 888-353-4537. Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time, at least two business days prior to a scheduled payment date.
