2019 Premiere on a Mac license code is invalid

I just spent 50 minutes on the phone with TT. It was only 50 minutes because the supervisor hung up on me. Some person named Charles. That was after going through Tier 1 and Tier 2 support. What I am told is that because Apple updated their OS that somehow that invalidated the previously validated product. I went to their web site and downloaded the product again from their account and entered the license key and it still does not work. Where in the Terms and Conditions does it say that after 4 years that your product will become invalid. This is beyond unacceptable. Where is my refund???

Unfortunately, there is nothing anyone on this board can do for you. If you want a refund, you will have to contact Support.

How do I contact TurboTax? (intuit.com)

You did not mention how long ago you purchased the 2019 software.    TurboTax stops supporting or updating the CD/download software after the last possible e-filing deadline for the tax year, so as of the end of October 2023, the 2019 software is not supported nor can you get updates for it.

And....just so you know, it is too late to receive an income tax refund for tax year 2019.  The refund has been forfeited, so even if the completed Form 1040 shows a refund, the IRS will keep it.  If you owe tax due for 2019, you will owe late filing penalties and interest, for which the IRS will bill you after they receive your return and the payment for the tax due as shown on the tax form.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue.  If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help.  Do not use the word “refund.”

Refund?  Did you just purchase 2019?  There is a 60 day money back guarantee.

Also, there are two applicable conditions in the Terms.  Specifically, Turbotax is only supported for 3 years.  Support for TT2019 ran out October 15, 2022.  Second, Turbotax may at any time discontinue support if a required third-party software (i.e. the operating system) is no longer supported.  In other words, Intuit is not required to re-code Turbotax 2019 because Apple updated their OS in 2023.

n. Discontinuation Policy and End of Software Support. TurboTax tax preparation and ItsDeductible donation valuation service for tax year 2022 are subject to discontinuation. TurboTax tax preparation software shall not be supported beyond October 15, 2025. ItsDeductible donation valuation software shall not be supported beyond October 15, 2023. Once an Intuit Software version or its support is discontinued, no replacement CDs or future support or updates will be provided or made available by Intuit for that particular Software version. You understand that discontinued Software versions (i.e., Software versions for which support and updates are no longer provided) may in the future be vulnerable to un-patched issues, including bugs, security, and other risks, and that Intuit is not responsible for your continued use of such Software.

o. Non-Supported System Requirements, Services, or Software (i.e., no longer supported by their third-party providers). System requirements and operating environments for use of the Software as designed, including currently-supported operating systems, database engines, browsers and other technical components, are posted on the website for the Software. Notwithstanding anything above to the contrary, Intuit will not provide (and is not in any way liable to you for) Software support for services, software, system requirements, or operating environments, including any operating system, database server or browser version, or other technical component, that is unsupported by its originating third-party provider. In the event that any currently-supported services, software, system requirement, operating environment, or other technical component is discontinued or no longer supported by its provider, Intuit will likewise discontinue its Software support for that particular service, software, system requirement, operating environment, including any operating system, database server or browser version, or other technical component.

I purchased TT 2019 in 2019. Software support has always meant to me that the developer will not support the application if there are changes to the underlying OS. I recognized that as a possibility. As a result I loaded 2019 on a Mac mini with 10.15.7. This was prior to the Oct 2023 deadline you mention. If you purchase software and you have a license for it, then as long as the system it is running on does not change the application should not stop working. This would be no different than purchasing a car and when the 5 year , 50K mile warranty ends the car simply turns itself off

You stated the following:

I understand this. I also believe that if I run TT 2019 on the same OS it was running it should not simply stop working. It is clear they have built a kill switch into the SW that forces a revalidation of the license . Why? If I purchased it then I should own it into perpetuity .

I can understand not receiving a fix after their end of support date. I do not understand what right Intuit has to kill the software after 3 years

Sorry but the 2019 program stopped being supported 11/1/23 so you can no longer download/install/or update the 2019 program on any system.  This has nothing to do with the OS you are on.

You should have saved a PDF of the returns you filed so you have access to them anytime you need them.  If you need to amend a 2019 return you will need to use paper forms or a local paid tax pro.

Funny, my 2019 code worked at InstallTurboTax.com, where Intuit says "Enter your license code to confirm your purchase and retrieve your download."  Intuit accepted the code from the CD box then and gave me the 2019 software to download.  However, when the software asked for the *exact same code*, the code is now rejected and the software is useless.

Clearly they have the codes still saved in their computer system somewhere but they refuse to either (a) authorize re-installed software using the code or (b) eliminate the need for an authorization code. Instead they make their software useless. They intentionally "brick" it.

This is a reminder that one size does not fit all.  There is still a need for people to use TurboTax even if refunds are not possible (which is what the 3-year deadline is about).

Because you guys don't give a FLYING FK about your customers. Why do you lock down a program after 3 yrs? I don't care if you support it, just let us open it!!!!!!! IRS can come after us for 10 yrs, but you lock down the program after 3 yrs. WE DONT CARE IF YOU "SUPPORT" IT. JUST LET US OPEN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
