I have completed my taxes and about to file . I am ready to e-file but I am getting a Check this Entry message. this is box 14 a on my 1099-R from M&T Bank SEI private trust and penson plan.. the message states that witholding cannot be more than or equal to gross distribution or state distribution. There is no amount in the box for state distribution, and gross distribution is greater than the withholding amount. This has been the same for the last 7 years, nothing has changed . Why is this happening this year and how can I correct this in order to e-file? It further states if I cannot correct the problem to mail yet when I click on file by mail it brings me back to e-filing . this is so frustrating and I have completed my taxes in over 2 weeks and still cannot yet file.

I suggest you delete the form 1099-R and re-enter it. Before you do that, you should go through the entry and note your responses to make the re-entry easier.
A simple way to delete forms in TurboTax online is to use the Tax Tools menu option, which is on your left menu bar when you are working in your program. Then, choose Tools and then Delete a form.
If you are working in the download TurboTax program, use the Forms Mode on your menu bar to bring up the form you want to delete, then choose the Delete Form option at the bottom of the form.
Thanks , but that did not resolve the problem. I am still getting the message.
If you have an amount in box 14 for state tax withheld but no amount in box 16 for state distribution, then box 14 is more that 16 and that would cause the error message. So, you need to enter in box 16 the same amount as is in box 1. The assumption is that if there were state taxes withheld as reported in box 14, then there must have been a state distribution, which would typically be the same as the federal distribution listed in box 1.
