I received a 1099-Misc from Oil & Gas revenue from a company, but they only provide a portion of their Payer's Federal Identification Number! TT wants the complete number. I tried contacting the company, but no response. They may have gone out of business. What can I do?
Thanks in advance for any and all sage responses!

If you are unable to reach the "Payer" and do not have a 1099-MISC from the same payer from an earlier year, try entering 99-999999 as the FEIN. Alternatively, just add enough '0" s to what was reported in order to have nine (9) numbers in the FEIN field.
This is not ideal, but you will have met the requirement to report all your income. Your tax calculation will be correct.
In the unlikely chance that the IRS contacts you for further information, just explain that the 1099-MISC was incomplete and you reported the information you had been sent.

Thank you very much!
I also have this problem and tried this and TT is not allowing me to move forward and file, what do i do?
If you have not been able to reach the payer to get the payer’s EIN number, you can contact the IRS for assistance. You can call the IRS at 800-829-1040.
Please review the IRS topic What to do when a W-2 or Form 1099 is missing or incorrect for more information.
Another option is to enter the 1099-MISC as Other Reportable Income not reported on Form 1099-MISC but keep the copy with your records in event that the IRS contacts you about missing income on your tax return. To enter it as Other Income, follow the steps below:
My workaround was to enter 33-3333333.
