1099-Misc info transferred to Schedule C - getting error

I received a 1099-MISC with an amount in Box 3 relating to my financial investments.  All information was correctly entered into TurboTax in the 1099 section.  The required information automatically transferred over to Schedule C.  

In Turbo Tax when I run the final check I get one error and takes me back to Form 1099-MISC (keep for your records). There is a comment in the Box 3 section .... "Required: double click to select the form on which to report this income". I'm selecting Schedule C and then selecting an existing Schedule C to link.  When I run the error check again, the same error pops up and takes me back to the Form 1099_Misc and the field is blank again.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this error?

I would try deleting the 1099-MISC entry.  Then Review  to make sure that there are no issues with Schedule C reporting.

 

Depending upon how the 1099-MISC was entered, you may be able to remove the 1099-MISC by following these steps:

 

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Tools.
  • Click on Tools.
  • Click on Delete a form.

Then re-enter the income within the self-employment activity by:

 

  • Clicking Edit to the right of the self-employment activity at the screen Your 2022 self-employed work summary.
  • Under Income, select Add income for this work to re-enter the 1099-MISC income directly into the Schedule C.
  • Again Review to make sure that there are no issues remaining.

Thanks JAMESG1for the suggestion.

I originally imported the 1099B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC and 1099-R directly from my financial institution.  I deleted only the 1099-MISC information along with any supporting schedules related to it.  Then I manually entered the 1099-MISC information and ran the TurboTax Smart Check again.  I'm still getting the same one error relating to Select an existing Schedule C to link.

 

I think I encountered a similar error when working on my 2020 taxes. But, I think was still able to successfully transmit my 2020 return with the one error as it didn't impact the income or taxes any.  The field looks to be informational only.  

 

Seems TurboTax won't let me proceed to file electronically this year until this one field is corrected.

Others have reported this same problem in the community discussion group so I'll research there to see if there is a resolution.

Some TurboTax customers may be experiencing an error when entering a 1099-MISC: 

 

A link to Schedule C should not be linked when the MWP qualifying as difficulty of care payments exclusion box has been checked.

Are you wanting to report the 1099-MISC income within a Schedule C?

 

If so, the Help is recommending the same procedure that I recommended above.

 

Remove the 1099-MISC by following these steps:

Thanks for your input.  TurboTax indicated on the Community message boards a fix would be coming out this week so I waited for the update.  It came out this morning and I updated the software.  That resolved my error.
