1099 for disability insurance payments

What version of a 1099 should I expect for short-term disability insurance payments from when I was sick earlier this year?  Is it a 1099-misc?

It depends on what kind of insurance it is. It could be one of several 1099-series forms, or it might not be a 1099-series form at all. It might be shown on your W-2. Ask whoever provides the insurance: your employer, your union, or the insurance company. Or just wait until you get the form in January.

If you are trying to file your tax return early, you cannot file until you get all your W-2s, 1099s, and other tax forms. And the IRS has not yet even announced the date when they will start accepting 2019 tax returns. It probably won't be until mid to late January.

TurboTax will let you "e-file" your tax return before the IRS start date. They'll probably start in the next few days. But your tax return will not really be filed. TurboTax will just hold it until the IRS begins accepting returns. Nothing will be done with it before then. But once you submit it to TurboTax, there is no way to cancel it or get it back to make changes or corrections if you find that you made an error or left something out.

Thanks rjs.  I'm just trying to get a jump on how much I might owe.  Cigna paid the benefits and they withheld FICA, but nothing else.

That sounds like it's probably sick pay, which would be either included in your W-2 or reported on a separate W-2. Whether or not it's taxable depends on whether you contributed to the plan.
