1099-DIV Federal ID

I have an imported 1099-DIV with a Federal ID Number of 00-0000000, and TurboTax will not accept this value.  This is the same value that has been provided on the 1099-DIV for this Payer for the last several years.  In the past TurboTax accepted this value and submitted my tax information, and the IRS has accepted it.  Why has TurboTax changed in this regard, and what can I do to submit my information so that it aligns with the information that the Payer has provided to the IRS?  I don't want to be flagged by the IRS for submitting information different from what the Payer has already submitted.

You may also try using another browser.

If you delete the imported Form 1099-DIV and you can reenter it manually.  It does not ask for the Federal ID Number. This should clear your error.

To delete Form 1099-DIV, you can do the following:

  2. Click on "Search
  3. And in the search bar type"1099-DIV"
  4. Select "Jump to 1099-DIV"

  6. Next to the Form 1099-DIV you want to delete, click on the (down-Facing) caret

1099-DIV Federal ID

Hi LindaS5247,

TurboTax Deluxe does require that a FEIN be entered on a 1099-DIV when federal income tax is withheld.  Do you have another option?

It depends. You may have to delete the number with the delete key, then enter the number with no dashes. See if that may hopefully work for you. As an alternative, you may want to delete the 1099-DIV and enter it again.

Lastly, you can remove the federal withholding from the 1099-DIV and enter it using the steps below (federal withholding only).

  1. Click on Deductions & Credits
  2. In the Estimates and Other Taxes Paid section, click on the Start/Update box next to Estimated Tax Payments.
  3. On the next screen, Income Taxes Paid, scroll to Other Income Taxes Paid in 2020, click on Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099, Start/Revisit
  4. Next to the type of tax payment (Federal, State, Local). Enter your payment(s) on the next screen, How much did you pay in federal, or state or local Select the locality from the drop-down list and enter the amount paid in the box.

It is important to keep this in your tax file so that you have it should you need it later.  As a last resort, if the tax return is mailed, you must include a copy of this document because of the federal withholding. Make a copy.
