Why does it ask for her income if she’s filing her own taxes?

Is she REQUIRED to file a return? If she made less than $14,600 and does not have self-employment income of more than $400 and is only filing a return for a refund, then he does not need to include this income in the calculations. You can uncheck that box.
If she has self employment income of $400 or more or earned wages of more than $14,600, then yes, he will need to enter that income in that box. There is not a way around it as it would be counted as part of the household income.
