There have been many posts asking when the software will be released to allow the entry of 1099-R income. It appears that the community believes that it will be included in the update scheduled for release on 1/21/2026. My question is why didn't Turbo Tax proactively send out emails to let its users know that? 1099-R income is a very common feature within Turbo Tax. Why did I have to register with an online community to search for that information. Now I am waiting and hoping that the online community is correct; if not, I will need to do more research to find out what the problem is.

Intuit has a site for that purpose:
I apologize but I went to that link and was not able to find information related to entering 1099-R income on Form 1040. What date did you see?

1/21/2026 for a couple of related forms, I believe, which should be finalized next week.
Change in the tax laws is the reason for the delay. Even the IRS website does not have all the forms and instructions or worksheets for 2025 posted.
The first day available to file with the IRS is January 26.

The fact that they still don't have the update, that it won't be available until the day that IRS is accepting returns just seems to make the program worthless. I've used TurboTax for over ten years and never had this problem. When I did a search online Chrome AI suggested that I go to 'Forms' and fill it in manually. Guess What, it worked. Makes you wonder if using a cheaper, other named provider might be worth it.
I'm retired, everything is paid off, standard deductions only, Why pay the 50 dollars each year?

If you can do your return manually, go right ahead.
If you're thinking some other software provider will be better, you're not right.
The problem has been fixed with today's update.

The data entry has been fixed and most financial institutions are listed.
However, some financial institutions are missing currently and some 1099-Rs cannot be imported from some institutions because they are not in the required format as of yet.
Sorry, but people who file this early are nuts anyway, for the most part.
