Maximize deduction to green my house

I am a new homeowner and want to make my house as green as possible and benefit as much as possible from the new IRA.  I've already checked on solar, but various factors prevent my house from qualifying.  I want to switch from a gas boiler to a heat pump next year.  How much can I get back for that?  Also, what limitations are there?  Can I have any heat pump installed?

I want to switch from a gas-powered water heater to an electric tankless system. Is there anything for that?

Is there anything for getting new appliances (fridge/dishwasher/oven/washing machine/dryer)?

Is there anything for adding insulation?  Currently my home has nothing.

Is there anything for changing windows and doors?

Is it better to do this all at once next year, or should I spread it out over a few years, or does it even matter?

What information do I need to retain for my records? What information will I need to furnish when I file my taxes?

Thanks!

Maximize deduction to green my house

Hi,

The Inflation Reduction Act has a lot for you!  This article does a great overview.

  • The heat pump and windows and doors are both  addressed in the Energy Efficient Home improvement section. There are limits, which is also discussed there.
  • Check out the high-efficiency electric home rebate section of this article to address your appliance question.
  • This previous response addresses your tankless water heater question and gives some great specifics.  This article is also helpful
  • Check out item 5 here re: the insulation

RE: Timing, while the revised credit is extended through 2032, be aware of this:

For eligible home improvements after 2024, no credit will be allowed unless the manufacturer of any purchased item creates a product identification number for the item, and the person claiming the credit includes the number on his or her tax return.

Re: Records, this TurboTax article helps you understand what you need to keep for receipts and for how long for home improvement items.

Please cheer below if you find this helpful.

Best,

Karen
