Alimony Arrears

My spouse is years behind in both alimony and child support thanks to COVID he is actually catching up since he gets unemployment and other pluses.  He still owes $20,000 I was divorced in 2010.  My question is since this amount is arrears and significant compared to the $17.00 a month I was getting it hurts my overall income instead of helping with the tax I owe on it.  Do I have to pay on the arrears or only on the amount he actually owes for the year?

You just pay tax on the alimony you actually receive during the year.

When was your divorce? I know you said years behind and I  am not a tax expert, but based on Turbotax's own knowledge article, the tax laws on this have changed. So just in case you were divorced after Jan 2019- Read this article
