I filled out my 2019 taxes with an Electric Vehicle credit but it was calculated wrong by TurboTax. I submitted the return. Now TurboTax has been updated and it is asking me to submit an amended tax return. That is fine but the initial refund was over $6000, now it shows that I owe over $3000.
The calculations are technically correct but it is assuming I received the money already from the IRS. Do I send the amount I "owe" even though the wash of the two returns will be a $2500 refund to mer? What is my liability to send in the extra owed money if I never received the first too large refund? Will the IRS send me the original $6000 refund?

Do not amend the return until you get the original refund...the IRS may catch this calculation error for you.
Am I not liable for any penalties and interest on the now "Money Owed" for the amended return?
Looks like I spoke too soon - the IRS deposited the full wrong amount into my account. So I guess send the amended with a check before the 15th?
