What are you trying to do?

You can enter expenses on a Schedule C for your self-employment expenses which were reported on your 1099Misc.

You cannot deduct job-related expenses for a W-2 job on a federal return.

Job related expenses are no longer deductible for most people. You can enter business expenses related to 1099-MISC income, but as of the 2018, you cannot deduct expenses related to W-2 employment.

Only the following workers can deduct job related expenses:

  • Armed Forces reservists
  • Qualified performing artists
  • Fee-basis state or local government officials.
  • Disabled employees with impairment-related work expenses
