What are car registration fees? If I bought a car this year and paid sales tax on it at the DMV is that a car registration fee?

Car registration fees are a yearly fee based on the value of your vehicle. You probably pay it when you renew your registration if you live in one of the states listed in the FAQ below. If that is the case the amount paid to DMV would be deductible (if you itemize).
