Along with a plethora of other users, frustrated because of the problems with updating TT, there seemed to be no way to bypass the failure to update. I was able to complete my taxes by using a different computer in the same room which for some reason was able to do the update. Then after things settled down, I tried uninstalling TT and reinstalling it. The download was ok but the installation seemed to take forever and hung with the message "Intuit Update Service v5 could not be stopped", suggesting I had insufficient privileges to stop a service. Retry didn't help. After three tries I finally ran the Windows 10 Task Manager, found that service in the list, right clicked on it, and did "end task". TT then started right away. Along with the many other long-time users having this issue, I will question whether to use TT next year.
