after e-file, I received the rejected email with below info:
/Return/ReturnData/IRS1116/ForeignTaxCreditSource/ForeignTaxesPaidOrAccruedDt - We encountered an issue processing your e-filed return. Please review the "ForeignTaxesPaidOrAccruedDt" on Form "1116" in the section "ForeignTaxCreditSource".
anyone has similar experience? I contacted the turbo tax online help and got connected with a tax expert and he went through relevant sections, determined nothing is wrong on my side, just need to re-try after some time, he think maybe some software updates will resolve the issue....i just dont feel 100% confident with this online response and definitely do not want to go through the route to file this via mail.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Since the Tax Expert had the benefit of reviewing the forms, I agree with the Tax Expert that updates to the system will most likely correct your issue. We still have numerous outstanding program updates that could affect your Form. I cannot say exactly what may have affected your return.
You may want to re-enter the information again:
Both the credit and the deduction are entered in the same place. Here's what you do:
In most cases, taking the credit works out better than the deduction. We'll help you decide which one's best for you when you go through this section.
If you choose to take the credit (most people do), we'll attach Form 1116, Foreign Tax Credit if your situation requires it.
Note: You won't be able to take a credit or deduction for taxes paid (or accrued) on excluded foreign earned income or housing. This is because excluded income and housing isn't taxed in the first place.
I got "/Return/ReturnData/IRS1116/ForeignTaxCreditSource/USTaxWithheldOnDividendAmt - Data in the return is missing or invalid. Please double check your entries." I believe the problem is that I entered "various" for the date that shows up under Form 1116 Part II instead of just leaving the default date of "12/31/2020". I received 4 different foreign dividend payments throughout the year, but I don't think the IRS likes "various" here. I changed it to "12/31/2020" and re-filed....will see if that fixes the problem.
