Turbo tax selecting Standard deduction even though itemized is giving higher refund due to lower net investment income tax (reported in form 8960)

Has anyone tested taking standard deduction (SD) vs itemized deduction (ID)? TurboTax automatically selected standard deduction (because SD amount of $25900 is slightly higher than my itemized deduction) but when i force it to go for ID, i am getting higher federal refund as my net investment income tax (reported in form 8960) goes down. Shouldn't TurboTax automatically select the best option based on refund?

No, it selects the highest deduction from the deduction amount.  You can override the deduction selection with no concerns.
