The home office expenses give you a deduction of $1385.  However, this expense flows to the Schedule A under Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions.  Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions are reduced by 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income (which you can find on Line 37 of your Form 1040).

Since you saw no change in your refund when you added your unreimbursed employee business expenses, your Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions were most likely not in excess of 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income.

To double check this, if you have paid for TurboTax, you can download/print your return by going to

  • My Account,
  • Print Center.
  • Print, Save or Preview this year's return
  • If you do this, you may want to click on the drop down to choose to download/print All Forms plus Worksheets. (See screenshot below)
  • Look for your Schedule A Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions Worksheet.
  • OR
When you are logged in to your return,

    • Click on My Account
    • Click on Tools
    • Click on View Tax Summary
    • In the upper section, click on Preview my 1040   (See second Screenshot)
    • Scroll to Line 37 which will show you your Adjusted Gross Income
    • Calculate the Adjusted Gross Income x 2% (or .02)

If your unreimbursed employee business expenses were less than the 2%, that is why you are not seeing any change in your taxes.
