We have a handicapped grandson who lives with us. We cannot claim him as a dependent. We remodeled our home to accommodate his wheelchair at a cost of over $30k. Can we claim this as a deduction?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You can claim the deduction as a medical expense if the remodel expenses were medically necessary and you furnish over one half of the support for your grandchild.

Federal tax deductions or home renovations
If you cannot claim your grandson as a dependent, then you cannot deduct these medical expenses.
