This year my tax return was taken for UNPAID student loans. I never received any correspondence that told me my tax return would be offset.
I've called the IRS, Dept of Treasury, Dept of Education, as well as the collections company. I was told that due to the coronavirus, they are canceling offsets this year and my check would be mailed to me. No one can give me a straight answer and I just need to find out where my check is.

If you are eligible for an economic stimulus payment, that will not be taken for offsets except child support. Your tax refund is still subject to regular offset procedures.
Any tax refund can and will be taken for any offsets. It will not be refunded to you. Period.
But any stimulus payment you may be due (if you qualify) will *NOT* be taken for offsets.
