If you got solar panels for your home in 2023, do you just enter the total amount you paid and take 30% as the credit?
Where do you enter this in TT?

Yes, you would enter the total expense you paid to have your solar panels installed. The Residential Clean Energy Credit for solar energy upgrades to your home has been extended through 2034 and expanded in value.
You can find Home Energy Credits in the Deductions & Credits section in TurboTax.
Here's more detailed info on Residential Solar Energy Tax Credit.
Enter the price you paid or you agreed to pay. If you are paying over time, enter the entire contract price but don't include interest. You claim the full credit based on the contract price as of the date of installation, even if you are paying over time.
Do you have to enter the installation date?

Not on this year's version of the form. However, by signing your tax return you are certifying that all the information is correct (including that any property you claim a 2023 credit for was actually installed in 2023).
