Should my tax due decrease based on Charitable donations, as in the past?

It depends on whether your return is taking itemized deductions or the standard deduction.  Charitable contributions are an itemized deduction and are only included on your tax return if you itemize deductions.

For 2018, the standard deduction increased significantly compared to last year, therefore in the past you may have itemized deductions on your return and saw the impact of the charitable contributions when they were entered.

But, this year, if your itemized deductions are not totaling more than the standard deduction of $12,000 for single/married separate, $18,000 head of household, or $24,000 joint (plus additional for over 65 and/or blind), then you will not see a reduction in your tax amount due when entering charitable contributions or any other itemized deduction

Once the total of the itemized deductions entered are greater than the standard deduction, then you will see an impact for any additional charitable contributions or any other type of itemized deduction entered.
