You should update the information to include the tax ID number of the child care center. Tax exempt is the option that would indicate the center does not have a tax ID number because it is not required to have one.
The tax ID number is an important part of the tracking system for the child and dependent care credit system.
To update this number:
- Click on Deductions & Credits.
- Select Review/Edit.
- Click on Edit beside Child and Dependent Care Credit.
- Click Edit under the provider's name and change the selection from "Tax-exempt organization" to "None of the above."
- Enter the tax ID number on the next screen.
