working on two years 2017 and 2018 at one time

I'm late for 2017!  I am working on both at the same time.  I've downloaded and began both returns using Home and Biz. 

Once 2017 is completed am I able to update my 2018 with the finalized 2017 figures?

Yes ... once you complete the 2017 return it can be transferred to the 2018 return.

But you CANNOT start the 2018 return UNTIL the 2017 is done ... if you started the 2018 return already you have 2 options :

1) start the return over from scratch

2) enter the prior year info as needed
