an FSA is not entered anywhere on your 1040. your taxable wages on your W-2 (box 1) were reduced by the FSA contributions you made. That's where you get the tax deduction.
Thanks @Mike9241 . Do I need specify somewhere that I spent all $1,500 of the Health Care FSA? Or specify somewhere if there is any carryover? I'm familiar with Dependent FSAs, and Turbo Tax asks those follow-up questions for Dependent FSAs, so I wanted to find out why it didn't ask me those follow-up questions for the Health Care FSA? Thanks!
No, those questions are not asked when dealing with a Medical/Health FSA. Nothing is reported on your return with regard to a Medical FSA.
I have this same question. In box 14 I have FAMLI 535.06 and FSA HLTH 500.00. When I enter the info into Turbo tax it wants me to enter the info from box 14. Are you saying that the FSA HLTH shouldn't be included? What about the FAML? I know the FAML is what was deducted for the Colorado Family leave act. I don't want these to mess up my taxes when entered.
Yes, you should enter items in box 14 on your W-2 into TurboTax, but no, for the most part, you do not enter such items anywhere else on the return.
As noted above, you report nothing about an FSA (except for the box 14 entry as noted).
The FAMLI is not deductible on your federal return. You should enter "Other" as the category for both, unless there is a specific category for one or the other in the pulldown.
