The second stimulus payment was $600 for you and $600 for your eligible child for a total of $1200.
How old is the child ?
a little over 2 years old. she was listed as a dependent on my 2018 tax return
A 2 year old is definitely under 17 years of age. I believe the confusion was in the amount of the second stimulus check being $600 for you and $600 for your daughter for a total of $1200.
It’s me, my wife and my daughter so I would’ve expected to be receiving $2900 ($1200+$1200+$500) for the first stimulus and then $1800 ($600+$600+$600) for the second. This is what I expect based from this from the IRS website:
- Your first Economic Impact Payment was $1,200 ($2,400 if married filing jointly for 2020) plus $500 for each qualifying child you had in 2020; and.
- Your second Economic Impact Payment was $600 ($1,200 if married filing jointly for 2020) plus $600 for each qualifying child you had in 2020.
Since I’m filing jointly there shouldn’t be any deductions from the stimulus based on my AGI. I’m trying to understand why turbotax is saying i've received everything I could have qualified for when how I’m understanding this I should have received $1100 more ($500 more in first stimulus and $600 more in second). To me it seems my daughter got missed off both based on the missing first amount but turbotax isnt recognizing that when I’m answering the stimulus questions.
Thank you for your help!
Verify that your child is showing up properly as a dependent. Look at your Form 1040, in the middle-ish of page 1. It should show your daughter listed, and then the check-box in column 4 should be checked. Is that showing up properly?
Does your daughter have a valid Social Security Number? Double check that you entered that correctly.
Thank you for the advice, I have checked both and everything looks correct as far as my dependents information entry. SSN is correct and she is showing up on the 1040. I think at this point I plan on manually filing unless someone from turbotax can explain what this issue is and why it is occurring. I’ve lost a bit of faith in TurboTax when no matter what number I put into the stimulus amounts its saying I’ve received everything they think I qualify for when it is quite obviously not the case.
For example, I tested out inputting $2400 received for the first stimulus and then $0 in the second stimulus and it is continuing to give me the message that I’ve received everything I’ve qualified for. I’ve done this with a lot of varying inputs and it is continuing to give me that message. I even inputted an outrageously over amount such as $2400 for the first and $5000 for the second and its saying I’ve received everything and this just seems like something is not working correctly in the back end.
I’ve screen recorded this behavior so if anyone from turbotax would be willing to actually help with what looks like to be a technical issue I will gladly do what I can to help resolve this. But at this point now I’m concerned the product itself is not working right and who knows what else could not be working for a fairly basic calculation and my confidence in it is shaken.
No one in this public forum can see your work so before you give up and paper file a return (which could take months to process) with a possibly incorrect amount on line 30 call TT support directly so they can screen shot with you and/or save a PDF with the worksheets and see how the credit is being calculated ... if the child is over the age of 16 then you don't get the credit or maybe your income is too high.

You can view your entire return or just your 1040 form before you e-file:
If you filed married filing jointly, it sounds like you did not receive the stimulus amount for a dependent for either stimulus check 1 or stimulus check 2. Do you believe that you should be receiving $2,900 for stimulus check 1 and $1,800 for stimulus check 2?
The TurboTax software adds together the entries that you made for receiving stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2. Then the software computes the amount of your stimulus check amounts based upon the information that has been entered into the tax software.
If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Rebate Recovery Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.
If you believe that you are due a Rebate Recovery Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return, then you should:
If there is a difference, it is in one or both of these situations.
In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2 information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.
You can also access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:
Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
