Nonbusiness Energy Property Credit and lifetime limitation

I installed some new windows in 2019 in my main home and I am claiming the tax credit for the cost of the windows (less any installation fees).  My question is if I had used this credit in 2009 for another house does that  credit from 2009 count toward the lifetime limitation?   Or is the credit lifetime limitation based on the same home and window improvements at that home?

According to the instructions for Form 5695, this credit is limited as follows:

  • A total combined credit limit of $500 for all tax years after 2005.

  • A combined credit limit of $200 for windows for all tax years after 2005.

Your 2009 credit counts toward the lifetime limitation.

thanks I was thinking it was by property address not by tax payer so I believe you are indicating the credit limit is by taxpayer regardless of what property it covers?

thanks

In your case, yes, but there are different types of credits that qualify for differing amounts.
