Hi sugarmae13,
Any dependent that does not qualify for the Child Tax Credit may qualify for the "Credit for Other Dependents" which is up to $500 per dependent. It is important to note that the Credit for Other Dependents is a non-refundable credit, unlike the Child Tax Credit which is refundable. This means that it is only available to offset an income tax liability if you have one. If you already have no income tax liability (for example, due to high deductions, a low income, or other types of credits that offset the liability in full), the Credit for Other Dependents won't benefit you.
Any qualifying children who aren't yours for CTC that year (for example, if they're being claimed by the other parent that year) may be qualifying children for EIC, but they do not qualify for either the CTC or Credit for Other Dependents that year.
