medical deductions paid by grants

Can I deduct my medicine costs paid by someone else, like grants form grant providers. In other words,  most of my medicines were paid for by grants from either foundations or directly from the medicine manufacturer. Can I deduct those payments even though I did not make them.

No.  Only medical expenses that you paid with out of pocket funds which were not reimbursed can be deducted as an itemized deduction on Schedule A.

I didn't think so, but I do know if you pay for your kids or grandkids, they can write it off and you can write it off as a gift. So I was hoping it would be the same.
