I have declared no dependents and have no children, natural or adopted, why do I see an adoptive child worksheet that I need to fill out?

It's possible that you mis-keyed some information in the My Info portion of the interview.

To check and correct, if needed:

  1. In the left pane in TurboTax, select My Info
  2. On the Personal info summary page, scroll down and select Edit to the right of each dependent, one at a time
  3. Page through each dependent's screen until you get to the Let's start with some info about your child screen
  4. Scroll down the page.  Near the bottom of the screen, you'll see an area called [Your dependent] is, with two selection circles beneath.
  5. If you have Adopted selected, unselect it, then select Continue

This should remedy your issue.  If it doesn't, see if there is a Form 8839, Qualified Adoption Expenses, included with your tax return.  To do this:

  1. Select Tax Tools in the left pane
  2. Select Tools
  3. On the Tools Center popup, select Delete a form
  4. If Form 8839 is listed, select the Delete link
