That message is correct if you are claiming 2 parents. It is not the Child Tax Credit you are getting. You are getting the $500 Other Dependent tax credit for each of your parents. If you are claiming your parents, you get this credit. 😉
Why do you think you are getting a Child Tax Credit? It is impossible to get that credit without child dependents on your return. Are you sure it is not the Recovery Rebate, Earned Income Credit or some other credit you are seeing? What Line # is your credit on, or what does your tax return (Form 1040) show?
The Earned Income Credit for those without children increased this year. Check Line 27a of your return - the credit you are getting might be the EIC - in which case you qualify for and can take.
This is what TT is saying when I ask how the credit was calculated - 'The total Child and Other Dependent Credits you qualify for is $1,000. You already received $0 of this as advance payments. You'll get the remaining $1,000 on your return, which comes from subtracting your $0 in advance payments from your total credit of $1,000.'
I do have dependents, but they are my parents.
